PC MPP COMMENTS ON OMBUDSMAN’S REPORT

For Immediate Release

June 3rd, 2008

(QUEEN’S PARK) - Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod agrees with Ombudsman report and demands the McGuinty Liberals finally act to protect new homeowners and the general public.

In a report released today, Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin called on the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services to clarify its relationship with Tarion Warranty Corp. after receiving hundreds of complaints about Tarion and the Ministry.

“Yet again, the McGuinty Liberals are long on talk and short on action,” stated MacLeod.  “This government should have acted on this issue long ago, now instead, the Ombudsman is being forced to intervene in order to spur the government forward and finally give Ontarians the answers they deserve.”

In the 16- page report, Marin focused on how the Ministry represents its relationship with Tarion to the public – and found its actions lacking.  Even though the goal of the Ministry is to promote protect the rights of consumer.

“Buying a home in Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario is challenging enough, we don’t need to place additional roadblocks in the way of new homeowners,” stated MacLeod.
