NEWS:

QUEEN'S PARK- This groundhog day, Lisa MacLeod, Ontario PC MPP for Nepean-Carleton, took the opportunity to highlight that just like Bill Murray's character in "Groundhog Day," Dalton McGuinty has doomed Ontario families to relive the same experiences over and over through his tired cycle of tax hikes, reckless spending, and sweetheart deals for foreign companies.

Between McGuinty's Health Tax, the largest income tax hike in Ontario's history, the HST, the largest sales tax hike in our province's history, and the Debt Retirement Charge, the Liberals' permanent tax on hydro bills, Ontario families are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. McGuinty's repeated reckless spending means Ontario is on track to double the debt by 2012. Finally, the secret deals that McGuinty continues to sign like the $7-billion contract with Samsung, are more proof that McGuinty hasn't learned.

In the next election Ontario families will have a clear choice between a Premier who keeps making the same mistakes and costing them more or Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs who will give families a break and help to move this province forward.

QUOTES:

"Ontario families have been stuck with Dalton McGuinty, who thinks they can keep paying more and more for his expensive energy experiments through their skyrocketing hydro bills. But it doesn't have to be this way.  Change is possible."

- Lisa MacLeod, MPP Nepean-Carleton and PC Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability

"Tim Hudak and the PC Caucus are offering the beginning of a new day to Ontario families.  We're offering a choice to Ontario families that will give them a break and move this province forward."

- Lisa MacLeod, MPP Nepean-Carleton and PC Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability

QUICK FACTS:

  • The Debt Retirement Charge was created in May 2002 as a dedicated revenue stream to pay off a residual stranded debt of $7.8 billion by 2012. The McGuinty Government first pushed back the repayment date from 2012 to 2014, and then until 2018, with no explanation why.
  • The McGuinty Liberals have increased government spending by 70 percent. The $1 billion eHealth boondoggle, the $250 million LHINs and the ballooning Ontario Power Authority are all contributors to out of control spending.
  • Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs are the only party who will offer real relief to Ontario families.
