NEWS: Ontario PC Revenue and Government Accountability Critic Lisa MacLeod introduced a Private Members Bill in the Ontario Legislature today which would increase the fine for any Cabinet Ministers who consistently skip Question Period. MacLeod's Bill, An Act to Increase Legislative Accountability for the Premier and Cabinet, amends section 7 of the Executive Council Act to increase, from $500 to $1,000, the daily fine for a minister of the Crown who does not attend Question Period in the Chamber on at least two-thirds of the days on which Question Period is held. MacLeod introduced this legislation today following news that Liberal staff and MPPs were going to be taking the day off to help out with their former colleague's mayoral campaign. PC staff will be at Queen's Park working for Ontario families. QUOTES: "This Accountability Bill was first conceived by George Smitherman as an opposition member. Today it comes full circle as many Liberal MPPs and staff decided to skip their work to help him become Mayor." -- Lisa MacLeod, MPP, Ontario PC Revenue and Government Accountability Critic "Liberal staff may be able to take the day off to work in the Toronto Election, but this Bill will ensure that political bosses still have to come to the office." -- Lisa MacLeod, MPP, Ontario PC Revenue and Government Accountability Critic
