PC Revenue Critic Lisa MacLeod presented 100,000 signatures opposing HST to Legislature

(Queen's Park) - Today, PC Revenue & Government Accountability Critic Lisa MacLeod presented close to 100,000 signatures of Ontarians on petitions opposing the McGuinty Liberal's 8% tax hike on home heating, fuel for the car, lawn care, home renovations and hundreds more everyday items.  The Ontario PC Caucus has already introduced well over 100,000 signatures on petitions of those opposing the $3 Billion tax grab in the past year.

The Ontario PC Caucus ran a year long petition campaign opposing the HST on www.daltonsalestax.com and through a direct mail campaign.  Many other organizations, such as fitness centres like Curves and condominium complexes also engaged in petition drives.

The HST takes affect on July 1, taxing a range of items not previously subject to the former 8% PST.  Among the list of newly taxed items are kids' sports registration like minor hockey, vitamins and summer camps.  Weddings and funerals will also see their prices increase as a result of the HST.
