Tuesday, November 17, 2009 (QUEEN’S PARK) – The McGuinty Liberals are pushing through the $3 billion HST tax grab without public debate. That is why the PC Caucus is calling for public consultation. Today, PC Revenue Critic Lisa MacLeod was joined by Peter Coleman from the National Citizens Coalition (NCC) to ensure Ontario families are given a voice in HST debate, and to push for public consultations. Given the major impact the HST will have on the cost of living for seniors, small businesses and middle class families, the PC Party and the NCC want to stop this 8 per cent tax grab from taking effect. Yesterday, the McGuinty Liberals began the process of rushing through legislation to formally implement their $3 billion HST tax grab. Over 150 people gathered at the Ontario Legislature for MacLeod’s rebuttal to the McGuinty Liberal tax grab by representatives from various sectors- including retiree groups, taxpayer advocacy organizations and condo owners. The unpopular $3 Billion tax grab by the McGuinty Liberals will be opposed every step of the way by the PC Caucus who plan on using every available legislative tool to defend Ontario families. The Ontario PC Caucus is joining a grassroots campaign push for a full series of cross-province public hearings into the HST. A first step for concerned Ontario citizens is to visit www.daltonsalestax.com and sign the anti HST petition.
QUOTES
“Dalton McGuinty is denying Ontarians a voice in the HST debates. That’s why we’re calling for public consultation in every community, from Ottawa to Niagara to Windsor to Hamilton to North Bay to Thunder Bay. The HST will have no legitimacy without public consultations.” -- MPP Lisa MacLeod, PC Revenue Critic
“Dalton McGuinty needs to take the HST directly to the taxpayers today. He cannot deny a voice from soccer moms, and hockey dads. He cannot deny a voice from seniors, students and Ontario Families. He cannot look at them as his own personal ATM machine. This is unacceptable.” -- MPP Lisa MacLeod, PC Revenue Critic - 30 – |
