(QUEEN’S PARK) - Over 150 people gathered at the Ontario Legislature for PC Revenue Critic Lisa MacLeod’s rebuttal to the $3 billion McGuinty Liberal tax grab introduced in the harmonized sales tax legislation by the Finance Minister today.

MacLeod was joined by representatives from various sectors- including retiree groups, taxpayer advocacy organizations and condo owners, among others who oppose the 8% or $3 billion tax grab on everything from home heating, to fuel and to kids sports registration.

The unpopular $3 Billion tax grab by the McGuinty Liberals will be opposed every step of the way by the PC Caucus who plan on using every available legislative tool to defend Ontario families and stop this tax grab from taking effect.

Ontarians are urged to join the campaign against the 8% tax increase by logging on to www.daltonsalestax.com.

QUOTES:

“Dalton McGuinty claims not to be ashamed of his HST plan, but he sure does act like it. If he means what he says – he will abandon his plan to rush his tax grab through the back door, and instead take the HST directly to the taxpayers today -- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak

“We are going to use every tool at our disposal to fight this tax and stop it in its tracks. It’s clear that public pressure is mounting and its working- just look at the transitional rules and the exemptions already announced. Ontarians don’t want this $3 Billion Liberal taxgrab and they can’t afford it”. --- PC Revenue Critic Lisa MacLeod
