SADDLES EVERY NEPEAN-CARLETON FAMILY WITH $13,500 OF NEW DEBT
For Immediate Release October 26th, 2009 (Queen’s Park) - Ontario families received even more evidence that Dalton McGuinty cannot be trusted to manage their tax dollars responsibly or competently, said Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod. Through its Fall Economic Statement, the McGuinty government announced last Thursday that it is running a record $24.7 billion deficit this year, adding further to Ontario’s massive debt the worst deficit-to-revenue ratio in Canada. “Families are forced to work longer and harder than ever, just to keep their heads above water,” said MacLeod. “Now, we have to pay our $13,500 share of Dalton’s Debt and be forced to work even longer and harder.” Since coming to office Dalton McGuinty has increased Ontario’s debt by $65.2 billion dollars. This equates to more than $13,500 in new debt for every single family in Nepean-Carleton and across Ontario. Dalton McGuinty has managed to rack up these historically bad debt numbers despite imposing record income and business tax increases. MacLeod noted that any promise of spending restraint from the McGuinty government cannot be trusted. Despite promising spending restraint in the 2009 Budget, the McGuinty government still ran up $4.8 billion in new debt. "It's all caught up to them," said MacLeod. "Ontario's in for a terrible hangover as a result of their mismanagement and ever-increased spending."
