More studies needed on health affects
For Immediate Release October 26th, 2009 (Queen's Park) – Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod called for a moratorium to be placed on wind farms throughout Ontario until more studies have been completed on the health affects wind turbines may cause. “The residents in the Village of North Gower have contacted me regarding their concerns about a wind farm in our own community,” said MacLeod. “And, during the committee hearings on the Green Energy Act, MPPs, including myself, heard from dozens of Ontarians who have warned us against potential health impacts of those whose homes are near a wind farms.” The biggest failure in the Green Energy Act is that local planning is taken away from local communities in favour of decisions made by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. MacLeod supports a private members resolution introduced by PC Caucus Member Bill Murdoch who is calling for a moratorium on all new wind turbine projects until the province and its chief medical doctor to state whether or not wind turbines cause health problems for people who live near them. “For the residents in Nepean-Carleton, the only option left for public input on the wind farm this Liberal government wants to impose on them is Mr. Murdoch’s call for a moratorium,” said MacLeod.
