Local MPP Given Key Role as Revenue and Government
Accountability Critic For Immediate Release: July 29, 2009
(Barrhaven)- PC Leader Tim Hudak was in town Monday with Local Tory MPP Lisa MacLeod when he announced his Shadow Cabinet. With Hudak’s appointments MacLeod learned she will be getting busier this fall. That’s when she’ll return to the Ontario Legislature as Revenue and Government Accountability Critic to fight Dalton McGuinty’s new sales tax.
Lisa MacLeod is that voice," said Hudak. "Lisa has been dedicated and proudly standing up for families since being elected. Her experience as critic for Children and Youth Services and more recently as Critic for Government and Consumer Services makes her an excellent advocate to let Dalton McGuinty know that Ontarians deserve fairness and a government that shouldn't pick and choose winners or losers."
MacLeod is looking forward to this new role. “Tim Hudak’s Shadow Cabinet is going to focus on jobs and the economy and I am honoured that he has chosen me, as Revenue Critic, to hold the McGuinty Liberals account for their new $2.5 Billion tax grab and to be part of a strong economic team that will put Ontario back on track,” said MacLeod. The Dalton sales tax, which will come into effect on July 1, 2010, will blend the HST and PST on a variety of items and services. MacLeod noted that Dalton McGuinty’s sales tax, the DST, will increase taxes on home heating fuel, funerals and gas at the pumps by 8% during a recession. “The Dalton sales tax will cost average Barrhaven families at least $200 more a year just to fill up the tank of their car. This tax is bad for the economy and it’s bad for the people of Nepean-Carleton,” said MacLeod.
