(Nepean, ON) – The McGuinty Liberal government is short changing the Ottawa Police Service (O.P.S.), Progressive Conservative MPP for Nepean-Carleton Lisa MacLeod said today. For the 17th time the McGuinty government has re-announced 1,000 new front-line police officers. The O.P.S. had requested 182 to tackle crime in the nation’s capital, but the Liberal’s have only provided funding for 95. “The McGuinty government has fallen short on another campaign promise,” said MacLeod. “The people of Ottawa are asking, ‘Where are the extra patrol cars for Stittsville? Why is the Manotick Community Police Centre closing? Why are residents in Barrhaven still dealing with youth vandalism?” “There are fewer officers on our streets today than there was back in 2000. That is not acceptable. The people of Ottawa expect the 182 more police officers that they have asked for,” added MacLeod. -30- Ted Yeomans Executive Assistant to Lisa MacLeod, MPP Nepean-Carleton 613-823-2116 or 613-297-2051 |
