Opposition critic Lisa MacLeod says government owes it to children to release report. NEPEAN-CARLETON, February 1, 2007 – The Provincial Government has quietly allowed the deadline to pass for a promised report on Autism Spectrum Disorder, according to Opposition Critic for Children & Youth Lisa MacLeod. Last September, Education Minister Kathleen Wynne and Children & Youth Services Minister Mary Anne Chambers announced the creation of a reference group to advise on the needs of students with Autism. The ministers announced that the reference group would present their report by the end of January, 2007. “January has come and gone,” said MacLeod. “As far as I know, the government has not released the report or even indicated if they have received a copy of it themselves. The government owes it to parents of children with autism to keep this promise.” The waiting list for Autism treatment in Ontario has increased by 1,300 per cent since 2004, despite the Liberal government’s promise to provide treatment for all children with Autism. “It’s clear the McGuinty Liberals can't be trusted on anything they say about autism when they promised to provide treatment for all children with Autism, and they can’t even keep up with the growth in the wait list.” said MacLeod. - 30 - For more information contact: Stephen Gilman, Executive Assistant Phone: 613-823-2116 Cell: 613-297-2051 |
