How can Ontarians trust lottery system with David Caplan in charge?

QUEEN'S PARK – Progressive Conservative Party Leader John Tory said it’s time Dalton McGuinty’s government comes clean and stops misleading Ontarians about the $100 million lottery scandal.

“Dalton McGuinty’s Minister should drop this joke that he was kept in the dark and take responsibility for the six-month delay in addressing this $100 million scandal,” said Tory. “Either he knew and was willfully negligent in refusing to deal with the allegations of huge rip-offs or he didn’t know and he’s just incompetent. Either way he should resign.”

In the Legislature, Tory pressed David Caplan, Minister responsible for Ontario Lottery and Gaming, to resign after he repeated his claim to not have known about the problems until 10 days before a CBC report.  The Globe and Mail reported this morning he’s known for at least six months. Dalton McGuinty was not in Question Period today for the second day in a row and he’s not scheduled at all this week.

“Ticket buyers have been ripped off and the Ontario public has lost confidence in the system,” said Tory. “This McGuinty minister is part of the problem. We know that he and his office stood by while the games were fixed. He should do the honourable thing and step aside.”
