MPP MacLeod asks if Minister Caplan thinks this is appropriate QUEEN'S PARK - April 2, 2007: Following the revelation today that the number of Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation employees who receive more than $100,000 per year has increased by 60 per cent in the last year, pressure for Lottery Minister David Caplan to answer for the lottery scandal included tough words today from Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod. “This is shameful,” said MacLeod during Question Period today. “The bloating of the $100G Club at OLG is just another example of [the Minister’s] incompetence and gross mismanagement.” MacLeod joined PC leader John Tory and her colleagues in the official opposition who continue to highlight in the Legislature the thousands of Ontarians defrauded out of their lottery winnings. “Minister, you – and only you – are ultimately responsible for OLG,” said MacLeod after revelations came to light that Liberal Campaign Manager Don Guy attended meetings to help with the cover-up. "Does the Minister think it’s appropriate for your party’s chief election planner to have been involved in this?" MacLeod has posted a petition on her web site calling for Caplan's resignation. Residents of Ontario are encouraged to download the petition at www.lisamacleod.com, collect signatures, and mail the signed petitions to MacLeod's office. - 30 - For more information, Stephen Gilman, Executive Assistant Office of Lisa MacLeod, MPP (Nepean-Carleton) Phone: 613-823-2116 Cell: 613-297-2051 |
