NEPEAN-CARLETON MPP LISA MACLEOD TO TABLE MOTION CALLING ON LEGISLATURE TO BUILD THE STRANDHERD ARMSTRONG BRIDGE

(QUEEN’S PARK)- Tory MPP Lisa MacLeod will take the funding fight to build the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge to the floor of the Ontario Legislature.  MacLeod will table a private members resolution calling on the Ontario Liberal Government to immediately enter into negotiations with the City of Ottawa in order to provide assistance to finally build the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge.

MacLeod’s resolution will be debated in the whole House when the Legislature resumes its spring sitting.

“Like my constituents in Riverside South, South Nepean and Manotick, I feel this bridge is a priority for all three levels of government.  Now that there is a commitment by the other two levels of government it’s time the provincial Liberals stepped up to the plate and got this bridge built,” said MacLeod.

Acknowledging that the Liberal Premier, Ottawa South MPP Dalton McGuinty has refused to fund the bridge out of the $200 million transit commitment to the City of Ottawa for the now defunct light rail scheme, MacLeod was still optimistic provincial assistance for the bridge could still materialize.  “In the end, this important piece of infrastructure is critical to all parts of the City.  The Premier’s own constituents would benefit directly from the construction of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge by reduced traffic congestion at Hunt Club Bridge,” added MacLeod.

Concluded MacLeod, “At the end of the day, my constituents just want the bridge built.  They won’t be impressed by political wrangling.  They want results.”
