PC MPPs cite Dell job losses as further proof of Liberals harmful economic policies

(Queen’s Park) - Ontario Progressive Conservative Finance Critic and MPP Tim Hudak (Niagara West-Glanbrook) and Ottawa-area MPP Lisa MacLeod (Nepean-Carleton) today slammed the Liberal government for leading Ontario into a McGuinty recession.

“Dalton McGuinty’s recession has hit yet another Ontario community,” said Hudak. “Yesterday’s Dell announcement is irrefutable proof that this government’s high taxing, high spending economic policies are chasing good jobs out of this province and have led Ontario to a recession.”

During his remarks Hudak referred to reports by forecasters at the University of Toronto’s Institute for Policy Analysis that Ontario is currently in a recession. According to the Institute, the province’s economy contracted 0.4 per cent in the first quarter of this year from the previous quarter and is in the midst of shrinking another 0.1 per cent in the second quarter from the first.

In the Legislature, Hudak and MacLeod pointed to the yesterday’s announcement that 1,100 high-paying jobs have been lost at Dell in Ottawa as a costly signal that the McGuinty Liberals need to reverse their harmful high taxing, heavy regulating policies that are dragging Ontario into recession.

“This is a devastating blow to the people of Ottawa,” said MacLeod. “The Liberals need to wake up. We are now in Dalton McGuinty's recession and sadly, the real losers are the families in my riding who now have to face the reality that there will not be an income to pay the mortgage, the groceries or the university bill.”
